Season 5 Chapter 2 Darkest Hour Live July 9

To Our Valued Board Members

Eastvale's CEO thinks it's time to move in a new direction.

To Our Valued Board Members:

Alongside a number of concerned messages from you all, it has come to our attention that Kepler has been experimenting with catastrophe physics again. In light of this, we wish to inform you of the truth: they never stopped. This is not merely a guess, but a documented conclusion from our own private investigations. Kepler has been steadily researching and collecting these devices since the first Smash-Up. So far, they are in possession of two Catastrophe Physics Devices that we know of: the first, created by Kepler themselves, and the second, which they retrieved from Balamtok.

Unfortunately, Kepler’s intentions with these devices are, as of this writing, unclear. It is possible they are attempting to create another superweapon. They could also be looking for new, faster ways to explore the Shardverse. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that they might be trying to cause another Smash-Up. Frankly, the inherent potential of catastrophe physics makes the possible number of their goals too numerous to ascertain.

I understand that this is an issue of urgent concern to our board members. And at this point, you may be wondering: why? Why is Kepler doing all this despite the enormous danger posed to the very Shards we inhabit?

But that is not the right question.

Instead, ask yourself this: why has Kepler been able to stay ahead for so long? The weapons, the Shard expansions, the advancements in glunite technology… All of it has been, so far, unmatched. And the answer is simple: Kepler is willing to take risks. They perform dangerous experiments to leap towards a better future. They allow their top scientists to die in the just pursuit of science. They put it all on the line to make their vision for the Shardverse a reality. As many of you know, the biggest risks often earn the biggest rewards. Kepler understands this well, and I am making a formal declaration on behalf of this company:

This is a lesson that we at Eastvale must learn if we want to stand a chance at being a global player.

From now on, Eastvale will no longer sit idly by and let Kepler govern the Shardverse’s fate. It's time for us to start taking risks. However, we must be better than Kepler. Our risks must be calculated, and made with careful consideration towards ethical repercussions. I truly believe that even with these limitations, Eastvale will match Kepler's accomplishments, and surpass them. This is what will set us apart from Eastvale. This is what will allow us to prosper.

With the support of you all, I’m certain we can take the steps necessary to reach a brighter future, one where Eastvale is the Shardverse’s guiding light. We need to set a moral standard and inspire people to work together.

Please familiarize yourself with Eastvale’s action plan, attached, for when Kepler makes their next big play. We must be ready to respond and establish ourselves as a company willing to move forward with risks in mind, and we must establish a strong presence in the Shardverse. Kepler has already made themselves an easy enemy. Compared to them, it shouldn’t be hard for Eastvale to become the hero.

Regards,

Chang Shijie
