Winterfest at the Elliptical

Remember Spring, Fall and Winter? Yeah, I'm starting to forget them, too.

One of the drawbacks of living in a void is the severe shortage of seasons. Remember Spring, Fall and Winter? Yeah, I'm starting to forget them, too.

Not that Acme ever had much in the way of seasons, back when we were a floating city on Earth's Equator. There was only the Absurdly Wet season and the Stiflingly Humid season.

But get ready to put on some layers, kids, because workers are hard at it outfitting the Elliptical for a real winter carnival in honor of Winter Festival, complete with snow, sleds and brisk, biting winds. Giant refrigeration units will bring the temperature down from our usual 28 degrees C to a few degrees below zero.

Just remembering what it was like to be cold might be fun for some, but that could get old fast, right? Fortunately a handful of Lancers will be using their amazing powers to provide blizzards. You can thank Hurricane and Windwalker for swirling gale-force winds, and Sonar will arrange for water sprays that can condense into proper snowflakes.

Activities for everyone include snow forts and snowball fights, sledding (you can use the elevators so you don't have to drag your sled uphill), and frozen maple syrup on ice. Or a reasonable substitute – thank you, Pathojen, for duplicating the taste and "mouth feel" of real maple syrup with – well, I don't really want to know what, do you?

There may even be a one-horse open sleigh for sleigh rides, if rumors are true and someone really does have a horse hidden away in Acme.

The Winter Carnival begins November 30 at the Elliptical (the Vanessa Stone Sports Arena) on Water Street and continues until January 6. Tickets are available online.
