Hello, sweethearts. The Lancer Association has informed me that they need a scientist to popularize knowledge related to thrymmology. As an excellent and reliable scientist of the Lancers, it seems that I am the only one capable of taking on this task. I don't expect you to understand much, but it is somewhat sad to have a bunch of Lancers with mushy brains as my teammates—so for the sake of our future cooperation, I hope we can all take this seriously.
"Thrymmology" is an emerging natural science that studies the essence and properties of the entire Shardverse and related materials. Or this term you might be more familiar with: "Shard-ology." Its purpose is to scientifically examine the world we inhabit after the Smash-Up and to provide targeted assistance for us to survive and live in this new world. Mediocre scholars of Acme have collaborated to establish the framework of this discipline and supplemented it with some foundational theories. These theories include preliminary explanations and conjectures regarding glunite, shards, Lancers, and the special phenomena of various shards. They respectively... Oh, sorry, your brains might not be able to handle so much information. Let's talk about glunite today.
Glunite is a special type of matter that exists in this world. It does not exist on Earth; it was only after the Smash-Up that Acme began to collect and study this miraculous substance. However, in many other shards, glunite should have already existed and been studied for quite some time. Currently, glunite has been found to have the following features:
- Glunite can serve as a source of rather excellent and clean new type of energy. All of Acme currently relies on glunite to maintain normal operations. Or any operations at all!
- The unique spatial properties of glunite can be used to maintain portals. Those affected by glunite—such as us Lancers—can use these portals without being harmed.
- Uncontrolled glunite is quite unstable and dangerous, but with sufficiently advanced technology, one can study how glunite affects different fungi joyfully every day like me. In an active state, glunite can also turn into the glowing substances you see at the target sites.
- Glunite can alter the properties and appearance of matter, though the principles behind this remain unknown. Lancers are a perfect embodiment of this property: We possess various miraculous abilities and have almost no concept of "death." We can only be shattered into a puddle of glunite, after which the glunite can reassemble our bodies. In other words, the physical form of Lancers has been completely changed by glunite.
Glunite has harmed many civilians, but they have also saved many—just like me. If you still don't understand why we must carry out glunite collection missions every day, just remember two points: Acme would collapse without glunite, and Lancers would disappear without glunite. Keep these two points in mind, and my efforts will not have been in vain.
